Sustained, Incremental, Cumulative effort – the way to write a novel (and live a life)
Writing has become a marathon. Lots of ground to cover, lots of stamina required, lots of self-talk about whether I can do it and why I am bothering along the journey. without knowing for sure when I will finish something, or whether I will finish it at all. In terms...

Today, and hopefully for many years to come, I am and will be a a full-time author. I am also a traveller and a story practitioner. Career writing
Having worked in the ‘job’ related industries for close to 40 years, Julia has immense knowledge of the labour market and how it has changed, as well as why people work and what they want to do (or not) to earn a living and satisfy the soul.
Already an author of several titles (that are currently being updated), Julia is preparing a whole new opus of work that includes information on job search skills and career management tools, and books for the career and employment industry.

Travel writing
As a Baby Boomer on a mission to conquer the world, Julia has already made great strides and, in the breaks between travels is preparing to share her stories through a range of media, including blog posts, articles and books (with accompanying photos, of course).
Whether you are a traveler of the armchair variety, or somewhat more of an intrepid adventurer, there will be something to delight and whet your appetite for more.

Autobiography
She’s been alive for a few decades and she has seen and experienced a thing or two. Now, Julia has set out to ‘write her life’, which shall prove once and for all that truth is stranger (and often more interesting) than fiction.
These are not stories of a famous or remarkable person; rather, they are about life, what it dishes out, and how we survive and thrive in spite of it. Expect to laugh, cry, and go a bit crazy. It won’t be dull!

Poetry, plays, and novels
Julia has been writing for a long time. Now the selection process is underway and a cadre of work is currently being prepared for publication.
(You will have to wait a while for the novels.)

‘Day job’ writing and editing
Julia has spent thirty or so years writing and editing as her ‘day job’ under the mantra that ‘No job is too big or too small’.
Her past work is mainly found under the byline Julie Farthing and has included newspaper and magazine articles, resumes, job applications, academic theses, press releases, promotional flyers, newsletters, reports and just about anything involving words.

Story practice
Story as practice involves using storytelling for a purpose. It is based on the idea that our story creates us and gives meaning to our lives. Through story we explain our past, make decisions and set ourselves on our future course. Change the story and you can change the course of your life. Story practice can be a powerful tool in career and personal development
In the broader sense, story practice can be applied to groups of people, such as families and teams, and whole organisations as a tool in establishing missions and goals, or as a precursor to marketing and promotional activities, and so on.
